Gordon Brown perhaps wasn’t really thinking when he decided to mention the petition on the PM’s website calling for a 2007 general election:

The number of people signing an online petition calling for a general election has leapt from 26 to 8,586 since Gordon Brown mentioned it on Wednesday.
